About Us

Who Are We?

The Lawndale School District State Preschool Program offers a high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum, which promotes best practices in early childhood education. Our program is committed to addressing the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child in our care, while fostering the language development skills necessary for reading, writing, math, discussing ideas, and following directions. We help children develop independence and self-esteem, an essential life skill.  Most importantly, your child’s early childhood experience is designed to prepare them for kindergarten and beyond!

About Our Teachers
Our teachers are certified by both, California Commission on Teacher Credentialing in Child Development and the High/Scope Educational Research Foundation as part of our educational approach. High/Scope is a quality approach to early childhood care and education which has been shaped and developed by research and practice over 50 years. The central belief of High/Scope is that children construct their own learning by doing and being actively involved in working with materials, people, and ideas. Our teaching staff is trained in the California Desired Results System and receive continuous professional development throughout the school year.

Get Involved!
Because here at Lawndale School District State Preschool Program we understand that parents are the first teachers, we encourage our parents or guardians to become involved in the educational process of their child through a variety of opportunities, and we invite them to become volunteers of our program and become part of our community.

Our Philosophy

The preschool program philosophy is that all students should be provided an opportunity to quality preschool services. Families will benefit from the various opportunities to become involve and engaged in their child’s education and students will develop a love for learning. Children will develop skills through developmentally appropriate planned activities as well as through inquiry, motivation, exploration and hands- on. Children’s abilities and skills are recognized and supported through various learning experiences and activities which foster the cognitive, physical and social and emotional growth and development of all students.

We believe that working as a team and in collaboration with parents/guardians, we can make a significant difference in the lives of children as we prepare them for kindergarten, and beyond!

Our Mission

The mission of Lawndale State Preschool is to provide a high-quality, culturally diverse early childhood education program in a safe and nurturing environment that’s conducive to learning. The Lawndale Preschool Program fosters and supports the social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development of preschool children while building on the strengths of each student.

a Message from Our Director

Claudia MaldonadoWelcome!  My name is Claudia Maldonado, and as your new director, I am excited to be part of the Lawndale Child Development program.  I am passionate about early childhood education, and I look forward to working together to provide your child with an engaging and high-quality educational experience.  As a mother of five, I have always recognized the importance of a strong home-school connection.  As a lifelong early childhood educator, I am committed to our students, teaching staff, and families. I believe in Maslow’s Hierarchy that all children deserve to be fed, feel safe, a sense of belonging, and develop a high self-esteem to focus on learning. I believe in ongoing professional development for staff and a sense of community for families.   As parents, family, and guardians we are working together to provide our children with their first educational experiences. We are our children's first teachers!

Here at Lawndale State Preschool, we are building the foundation for the development of the whole child. We foster children’s social and emotional wellbeing, exercise their cognitive skills, practice problem solving, help them in becoming independent, and develop a sense of self.   Our teachers pride themselves in creating a safe and nurturing environment.  Therefore, I believe that by working together, we can ensure that our children’s needs will be met. For this reason, as I embark on this journey with you, I assure you that my primary objective will be to ensure that every one of our students is receiving high-quality instruction.
I look forward to working together with you as we, together, prepare our students for kindergarten readiness and, more importantly, for life!

Adriana MacielAdriana Maciel is the Clerk Typist for the Lawndale State Preschool Program. She has proudly served the families of our community for the past 18 years!

It brings a smile to her face to see our little ones so excited to learn and make friends and gives her joy to see that many of our families are returning families that have had a child in our program in the past.

This is proof to her that LESD State Preschool families have experienced the quality of our program, the capability and experience of our teachers and the unity of this community.
